The Internet Is Its Own Brand

We tend to forget that the Internet itself is a brand. The “Internet” is a term to reference a network that crosses countries and languages. If we didn’t use the term “Internet” it would be difficult for us to communicate what we are referencing to someone else.

The Internet is a road that leads to destinations or pathways. The consumer of services or information travels down these pathways to reach the place of desire. Examples of desires are Disney, Ebay, Amazon and Apple. Daily these pathways are lined with thousands of traffic twenty-four hours a day. The traffic that travels these paths never questions what the “Internet” is because they’ve heard the word so many times the mind captures the word as truth.

Think about your brand on the Internet as a space. The brand is a space where people can choose to come to at any moment. How do people find your space? There are millions of spaces out there so how do you stand out? This is the trick that many corporations are trying to figure out. This is why tools like Adwords are making big funds for companies like Google. We’ve taken an old school concept like the highway with billboards and put it in a technology platform that appears to be new.

Look at the Internet and your website as an electronic structure of your brick and mortar business. Whatever you are doing in the physical realm you should be doing in your Internet space. Spend the time and money on research and development for your online space. Don’t let your information technology group tell you it can’t be done. The question should be, “How can we do it?”
